CCMC245 Sketch Challenge

Thursdays are always awesome because there is a new challenge over at Create with Connie and Mary.  This week's challenge is a super cool vertical sketch that is totally stamper friendly.  Go ahead and follow the sketch and upload your card to their website.

I started my card with the floral focal point.  I used the Pop Up Posies kit (it's a fabulous kit and a definite must have) for the flower and the kraft colored tag.  The greeting is from the Feel Goods stamp set and was embossed with the Pool Party EP.  The pattern paper is from the Tea for Two DSP pack.  To finish my card I dusted the flower and the top half with Dazzling Diamonds Glitter.

Here's How I Do It

When following sketch challenges I first study the layout, leave my computer and go to my stamp table, and then from memory I make my version of the sketch.  Well, this time I got the main focal layer turned around.  I have my oval running side to side instead of up and down--oops, but that's okay because the point of a sketch challenge is a motivator not a must.

Hand Stamped Sentiments newest challenge is this fun and fabulous sketch.  The challenge will be open for the next two weeks so get your supplies out and start stampin'.

With a layout plan, thanks to the sketch challenge, I needed papers so to start grabbed my pack of Sycamore Street DSP.  And from that my wild color palette was set.  The "thanks" image comes from the Vintage Verses stamp set, a Sale-a-bration freebie.  It's embossed with Pool Party powder and then sponged with Rich Razzleberry and Soft Suede ink and then is dusted with Dazzling Diamonds Glitter.  You gotta love the Doilies!  They are $2.95 US for a pack of 24 and they, like glitter, make everything better.  To get a more oval shape I simple added a fold across the middle and hid the pleats under the side flags.

I love this card that I am sharing today.  I love the colors, the stamped fishtail banner, the scallops of the oval punch the laser cut heart, and the doilies.  Speaking of doilies I have a big doily crush!!  Seriously, I put them on everything.  You want to hear something goofy?  I made this card a while back for a color challenge for Connie and Mary, but I blew it and made the same color combo from the previous week.  So, I had to go back to the stamp table and make the right combo.  Needless to say today I am sharing the blooper.  But man is this blooper card a happy card.  I hope you like it.

Don't you just love the center flower?  It is a single rosette from the Flower Trim ribbon on top of a Paper Daisy with Lucky Limeade brad.

Birthday Treats

Cut six hearts from the Hearts Framelits, fold them in half, make two cones (3 hearts each), glue the cones together and you have the sweetest treat holder ever! I used a variety of Tea for Two DSP pieces for my treat holder and then added a doily, because you can never have too many doilies, a Very Vanilla butterfly, a single rosette from the Flower Trim Ribbon, and a bit of Natural Trim  Ribbon for the handle.  It's just too cute!

Feelin' Scrappy

I have been in a scrappy mood lately and my favorite subjects to showcase on my pages are my family members!  Another favorite of mine are Stampin' Write Markers.  I use them way, WAY more than ink pads to ink my stamps--I just love the look of multi-colored images.  Of course I used colors that matched the Sycamore Street DSP.  Those papers are super yummy and were perfect to highlight my photo.  Fyi, my page is an 8" x 8" and based with Very Vanilla and a background piece of First Edition DSP.  The Calypso Coral card stock panel has been embossed with the Vine Street TIEF and the buttons are from the Sycamore Street button and ribbon pack.  I just love how easy everything coordinates.  Thanks SU! for making such great products :0)

An Amazing Easter Box

I made a very pretty box thanks to the Fancy Favor Bigz XL Die and the gorgeous Flower Trim Ribbon.  I actually cut two of the boxes to make an extra tall box.  Every now and again I like to use both Very Vanilla and Naturals Ivory card stocks.  They look simply divine together.  For the banner on the box I stamped the "your're amazing" image from the You're Amazing stamp set with Illuminate Ink and Iridescent Ice embossing powder.  To color in the letters I scribbled Signo Gel Pen ink and then blotted it before it dried.

shabBy style

I love the shabby styling of this card.  The waves in the Linen Thread, and wrinkles in the brayered doily, and the sanding of the Coredinations card stock.  The card measures 3" by 6" which is a fun change of pace for me.

Stamps: Oh, Hello

Ink: Primrose Petals, Pretty in Pink

Paper:  Primrose Petals Coredinations card stock, Very Vanilla and Pretty in Pink card stock

Accessories: Doilies, Artisian Embellishment Kit, Linen Thread, Flower Trim, Basic Pearls, Butterfly Punch, Ovals Framelits, Sanding Block, Clear Buttons

Quaint Colors

Today's color challenge is from Hand Stamped Sentiments.  These three colors with a neutral are fresh and fabulous together.  I wish you could see this card in real life -- it's so pretty and textural yet soft.  I love the Pleasant Poppies stamped in white as a background and how they peek out on the left side.  The focal flower is super cool how you can stamp it and get five fun layers.  It's called Quint-Essential and is a must have for you stamp stash.  the center button is one of the new silver buttons you can get from the Occasions Catalog.  The printed papers are from Summer Smooches.  Enjoy!

Sponged Background

Pull out your new lace tape and use it as a mask to create one of a kind backgrounds.  I started with a Whisper White panel, then added three strips of the Lace Tape, and then sponged Raspberry Ripple, Summer Starfruit, and Primrose Petal ink over the tape.  For a bit a glisten I sponged Illuminate ink all over, let it dry, and then removed the tape.  YOu can see that I was inspired by the color challenge over at Create with Connie and Mary for my rich and intense palette of hues.  These are not my typical colors, but that's what I love about challenges--they take you out of your norm and push you to develop your style.

I Love Markers

That's right I love brush markers for inking up rubber stamp images.  I would say I use them twice as much as a do ink pads.  For this card I used a couple scraps of Sycamore Street DSP with an Old Olive card base.  I inked the hot air balloon image with Calypso Coral, Rich Razzleberrry, and Old Olive and then added a little Dazzling Diamonds to the highlighted area with a Two-Way Glue Pen.  Even though the "winner" ticket is one solid color I still used the brush marker to keep the colors consistent from image to image.  I used the Two-Way Glue Pen again on the ticket to add more glitter.

Quick, Clean, and Simple

I put this card together a while back when I had my pack of Sycamore Street DSP out.  I love the Summer Starfruit and Whisper White patterns mixed with the Island Indigo patterns.  I seem to usually make cards with lots of poofy details, but not this time.  The layers are left flat with just a touch of depth with the dahlia.  For the greeting I used a marker on the "thanks so much" image from the Oh Hello stamp set.  To bridge the two Sycamore Street DSP panels I added a belt of Victoria Crochet Ribbon.
