Reflecting On #TGIF161

#TGIF161 #Lilypadlake #LakesideFramelits
Once again I am pulling out a favorite stamp set for a team challenge.  The latest challenge being hosted by the TGIF Challenge Blog is all about "reflections."
I use the Silicon Craft Mat to create a reflection on a card.  I do find that some inks work better than others.  For this card the reflection was stamped with Basic Black Archival Ink so I could watercolor in and around the image.  I have tried using Memento Ink with this technique so I could use blender pens, but I find the ink does not transfer as clearly.  It beads up in teeny tiny dots on the mat and then does't stamp/transfer as well, it almost has a stippled appearance.

To stamp a reflection:
1.  Ink up image and stamp onto a Silcon Craft Mat.
2.  Set a piece of cardstock on top of the mat and rub firmly to transfer the image.
3.  Carefully remove cardstock from the mat.
4.  Clean mat right away if using waterproof ink.
For this card I started with a piece of Shimmer White Cardstock and stamped the sky and water using the wavy line background images.  The sky is stamped with Soft Sky Ink and the pond water was stamped with Old Olive and Soft Suede and then watercolored with an Aquapainter.  Next, I stamped and transferred the reflection of the heron and added a bit more ink here and there.

Behind the diecut pieces of grass is a sponged background of grass.  You can see I made my own stencil using the same grass framelit from the Lakeside Framelits cut several times into a piece of Vellum Cardstock.  The heron and waterlilies are also cut from the same Lakeside Framelits.

Happy Birthday Backgrounds

It's color challenge time at Hand Stamped Sentiments and we are mixing Marina Mist, Rich Razzleberry, and Old Olive.  This is a sweet combination, however I switched out the Marina Mist for the new Balmy Blue.  The new hue of blue is a tad softer and so lovely and totally yummy.
I cut the Happy Birthday Thinly three times.  Twice from scratch cardstock and once from the Share What You Love DSP.  I glued them all together to create dimension without having to use Stampin' Dimensionals.  I do this because the thinlit is so detailed and snipping itty bitty pieces of dimensionals would be too much of a pain.  I also added a thick coat of Fine Tip Glue to the top of the happy birthday cut out.  This gives it tons of shine and even more dimension.

The rows of Balmy Blue candles were stamped with the Birthday Backgrounds Stamp Set.  There is also a bit more shine in the background.  Each of the candles has been detailed with a dusting of Dazzling Diamonds Glitter and a strip of Silver Glimmer Paper add just a bit more sparkle to the card.  The last touch was to add Basic Rhinestone Jewels to each balloon.  I like that little bit of silver to tie into the glimmer paper.

Monday Montage

Welcome to our Monday Montage Blog Hop.  You might have hopped here from Dani's Thoughtful Corner or maybe you started here, but do be sure to hop all the way through for some stampinspiration!
Using the Lilypad Lake stamp set I created a wreath for a thinking of you card.  I decided the lilypad and waterlily image could double as a succulent on a piece of drift wood or sponge mushroom, so I went with the idea.  The painted succulents looked great on the Wood Textures DSP so I went with that, Pool Party, Powder Pink, and Whisper White.  To add a touch of dimension I sponged the DSP with Early Espresso Ink.

Waterfront Stampin' Up! Artisan Blog Hop

This month the Artisan Design Team is featuring the Waterfront and Southern Serenade Stamp Sets.  My projects have been created with the Waterfront set and some of my favorite ink and cardstock color combinations along with white and silver sparkle.

One thing I love making are carefully crafted packages.  I love to give a grand presence to a present (ha ha).  This gift dons a spunky paper bow and a one of a kind gift tag.  My go to wrap method is to whip up a belly band for easy unwrapping and rewrapping if one wishes.
To create the bow:
1.  Cut 1/4" or 3/8" wide by 11" long strips of cardstock.
2.  Use a bone folder to breakdown the fibers by pulling the strips over the edge.  Do it over and over until the cardstock starts to separate.  The strips will start to curl.
3.  Carefully use the bone folder to enhance the curls.
4.  Layer the curled strips and tie together with bakers twine.
The Acetate Boxes are perfect for packaging hand made cards.  I filled this box with a trio of Waterfront cards and envelopes.  Each card is filled with the same elements and stamped patterns; it's all just a little theme and variation.
My beach scene card below is where this look all the started.  I made this card and LOVED the colors and the technique.  (I loved it so much I created a trio of forest scene cards which I posted at the beginning of this month)  I decided the Flirty Flamingo, Grapefruit Grove, and Pineapple Punch were perfect with Pool Party and super perfect for my beach themed card pack, so that's where the creative process all started.
For the beach scene I did a two step stamp process combined with heat embossing.
Step 1.)  Stamp image in Whisper White.
Step 2.)  Clean image and stamp over the white impression using any Classic Ink color.  I like to be slightly offset to create shadows and highlights.
Step 3.)  Work quickly to finish scene then heat emboss entire piece with a mixture Clear Embossing Powder with Dazzling Diamonds Glitter to make a custom sparkling look.  Be sure to have more Clear EP than the glitter to allow it to bind, heat, and melt.
I truly have loved having you stop by my blog and I do hope you have been inspired.  Your next stop along the hop is with Emma Goddard.  She is a brilliant stamper with great style and flair; and she has fabulous things to share with all of you.
