The challenge this week at Hand Stamped Sentiments is all about TAGS!!!  And what perfect timing this challenge is with the holidays quickly approaching.  I love my tag on the bag it's so fun, funky, chunky, and festive.  To make my Christmas tree I used one of my most favorite tools the Designer Rosette Bigz XL Die.  I laid a full sheet of Festival of Prints DSP Stack on the die and ran it through the Big Shot to include eight of the 1/2" sections.  I very simply glued the top together and flared the bottom.

To hold the flared bottom in place a hot glued a scrap of card stock on the back side.  For the tree trunk I actually went out to my backyard and clipped a twig.  The tiny greeting tag was stamped with an image from the Petite Pairs stamp set.  The cool texture is because of the Core-dinations card stock and the Woodgrain TIEF.  The big bow is tied with Cherry Cobbler Tulle Ribbon.

Thanks a Bunch

I said it in a post last week that I am really drawn to the colors and patterns of the Orchard Harvest DSP.  The pack is so rich with gorgeous and saturated bright and jewel tones while the patterns are spot on trend wise.

While this card may appear simple there are a few details I want to point out.  The "Thanks a Bunch" image is from a stamp set called Friendship Preserves which coordinates perfectly with the Window Frames Collection Framelits.  To ink the image I used my Rich Razzleberry and Early Espresso markers.  To texturize the larger espresso framelit layer I used the Houndstooth TIEF.  I gathered up some of the Early Espresso Tulle Ribbon which is layered between two pieces of the Orchard Harvest DSP.  The plaid layer behind the tulle is subtle, but it's my favorite part of the card.  A simple shoe string bow is tied with the 1/8" Rich Razzleberry Tafetta Ribbon.

...I put together two cards which feature very different products.  The first card uses 1/4" stitched ribbon and adhesive sheets with the Dazzling Diamonds Glitter to create with ribbon window candy cane.  The second card uses Heat and Stick Powder with Dazzling Diamonds Glitter to make the Christmas tree.  I first stamped the tree image with Versamark Ink and then spritzed Gumball Green ink all over the stamp.  The inside of both cards are the same--simple and cute.

Happy Halloween

I thought I would share my Halloween decorated mantle in our family room.  I used a few things I have made over the last few years and a collection of old books and candles.  It came together quick and easy.  

I started with a black and burgundy feather wreath which I purchased several years ago from Target.  I layered a rosette wreath that I made that year from 2010 Stampin' Up! DSP which I can't remember the name.

I continued with the small vintage books, a few candlesticks, and then cheapy Dollar Tree glitter skulls.  I rummaged through my cupboard for any green, purple, and orange pillar candles for pops of color to frame out my black crow on a skull.  

To finish it all off I draped clunky chains, which I also found at the Dollar Tree, a couple garlands, and purple miniature lights.  The "boo" garland is one I made three years, maybe four years ago with Stampin' Up! products.

I truly love dreaming up and crafting Halloween decorations.  I have lots of them and it's so much fun to change it up each year and mix and match.  Truth be told I was looking for all the cool things I made last year because they would blend perfectly with all the Howlstooth and Scaringbone creations I made this year, but could not find them.  I'll find them next year and will have fun mixing it up a bit from this year.

 This wonderfully sweet Christmas card was designed and made by my very awesome friend Julie Beltramo.  She has used the Joyous Celebration stamp set to make this picture frame styled card. 

Designer Rosette Tree

I love this whimsical Halloween tree made from the Howlstooth and Scaringbone DSP along with some First Edition DSP.  Each layer of the tree was quickly cut and folded thanks to the Designer Rosette Bigz XL Die.  The assembly of the tree was not as quick.  Not that it was hard; I just needed to keep patient.  One row at a time and starting from the bottom I used t-pins to hold the rosettes in place.  Before moving to the next tier I added plenty of low melt hot glue.  Why low melt?  Because the tree is based on a styrofoam cone.  Each tier is two lengths of the Designer Rosette glued together to form a ring; each tier gets progressively a bit shorter as the cone narrows to a point.  The finished tree is sitting on the center of a five arm candelabra and has spiders crawling up and down.

Fall Inspiration

For this week over at Hand Stamped Sentiments we are hosting an inspiration challenge.  The inspiration is a gorgeous fall scenery photo filled with fabulous autumn hues.  I am drawn to all the colors, mostly the saturation levels, in the Orchard Harvest DSP pack.  And, that is where the inspiration photo took me--to a perfect palette of warm and inviting color.

I included the Chevron TIEF to mimic the diagonal layout of the gingham and to lend to a crisp and crunchy feel as if stepping on a dried fallen leaf.  The "hello" greeting comes from the Friendship Preserves stamp set and was cut with the smallest Window Frame Framelit.  Don't you think it layers perfectly on the Petal Card Double Punch?  What is fun about the layered tag is that it is secured to the card with Linen Thread and is free to swing from side to side.

So for now, on with a cute post for today...a clean and simple Christmas card featuring the Joyous Celebration stamp set and the Snow Flurry Bigz Die.

I used both Silver and Red Gimmer Papers and a 3/8" Bright Glimmer Brad.  The two skinny banner strips are cut from the Storytime DSP and are embellished with two Basic Rhinestones.  The entire card has a light misting of Frost White Shimmer Paint and a dusting of Dazzling Diamonds Glitter.

Postage Due Shimmer

A while back I shared several cards made for a swap group of which I'm a part, this is the last of the set I created.  There is a group of eight of us who are each assigned a suite of products to design and make four different cards for each member.  I had the Fan Fair suite which includes the Postage Due stamp set.  The Fan Fair DSP was the motivation for the color combination, and let me tell you this is not a typical palette for me.  What is totally me is the use of the Frost White Shimmer Paint, which I dabbed onto the stamp.

Halloween Star Wreath

I am joining the Great Pumpkin Blog Hop again this week and sharing my "Happy Halloween" star wreath.  It is made from the Howlstooth and Scaringbone DSP along with the Simply Scored tool, the Rosette Bigz XL Die, Typeset Alphabet Bigz Dies, and a flat wooden 12" wreath ring.  The finished wreath measures about 30" across and is WAY COOL.  

Each point of the star is made with (1) sheet of 12" x 12" DSP and is scored every 1".  The center medallion/rosette/lolly measures 10" across and the First Edition is 12" across.  The banner measures 3 1/2" x 20" and was shaped by first coloring heavily with an Aqua Painter and then by spritzing with shimmer paint and rubbing alcohol.  I love the spiders with the Basic Rhinestones.  They give a creepy crawly look takes the wreath up a notch.

Inked Embossing Folder

Today, and all this week, Hand Stamped Sentiments is hosting a technique challenge.  The challenge this week is Inked Embossing Folder--YES that's my most favorite technique!  I used the chevron TIEF with three colors of Stampin' Write Markers, Cherry Cobbler, Riding Hood Red, and Gumball Green.  I used those same markers to ink up the Heart of Christmas stamp for the focal panel which was cut with the Apothecary Accents Framelits.  The finishing details include paper piercing, tulle ribbon, and basic rhinestones.  Cute, don't you think?

Pretty Paper Bow

How about a quick card with an autumn feel for today's post?  I started with the leaf print from the Orchard Harvest DSP pack and let the paper direct the design of the card.  I glued the leaf panel of DSP to a base of Old Olive card stock and then ran the layers through the Framed Tulips TIEF.  I included a light sanding to the raised images for added flair.  The focal panel features a heat embossed "just for you" window frame in a Silver Flourish Frame.  It's tricky to see but there is a gingham panel punched to fit the silver frame and back all the focal bits.  My favorite part of the card is the paper bow and wooden button.

To make the bow I cut a strip of 1/2" x 8" piece of DSP and folded the ends inward to form loops.   Then I used linen thread through the button to secure the loops of the paper bow.  The silver frame is detailed with a couple mini brads to match.

World's Greatest Witch!

The very second I saw these papier mache witch hat forms I knew I needed to buy one and make a custom hat of my own.  All of the products used on the hat are from Stampin' Up! except for the crows and the wooden dowels for my pennant flags.

• I started with (2) 12" x 12" sheets of Howlstooth and Scaringbone DSP scored every 1".
• I glued the ends of the scored pieces together to form a long tube and slid it over the papier mache hat and hot glued it in place.
• Then I scored a (2) more pieces of 12" x 12" Howlstooth and Scaringbone DSP scored every 1", cut it across the scorelines into (4) 12' x 4" strips, glued the ends together to form a ring, flattened the ring onto the brim of the hat, and then secured the dsp to the brim with hot glue.
• Between the brim and the cone of the hat I hot glued a strip of Crumb Cake Scalloped Tulle Ribbon which was very gathered up the middle.
• The "world's greatest" was stamped on Very Vanilla with Basic Grey, Soft Suede, and Pumpkin Pie Stampin' Write Markers, cut out using the Apothecary Accents Framelits, it was distressed with ink, and then embellished with Antique Brads and Basic Rhinestones.
• The "world's greatest" was layered on (2) pieces of Howlstooth and Scaringbone DSP cut from the Labels Collection Framelits.  Scraps of the Crumb Cake Scalloped Tulle Ribbon are tucked between the layers.

• I included (3) different scruchy-layered paper flowers using more of the Howlstooth and Scaringbone DSP.
• For the pennant flags I used Greetings of the Season and Toxic Treats both stamped on Very Vanilla with markers.
• The pennant flags are on 1/8" wooden dowels wrapped with Howlstooth and Scaringbone DSP.
• The "witch" banner letters were cut with the Typeset Alphabet Biz Dies from Basic Black and then spritzed with Frost White Shimmer Paint in rubbing alcohol. 
• (3) black crows from the Dollar Tree were hot glued in place.

PUMPKINS!

Today's challenge at Hand Stamped Sentiments is all about pumpkins.  I went with a traditional orange pumpkin but I love all the white, green, grey-blue, dimpled, and multi-colored pumpkins they are so cool.

I made my punch art pumpkin using the 2 1/2" Circle Punch.  There are five pieces total.  The center top piece was punched twice.  First as a circle and then I put the piece back in the punch to shape it as a leaf.  The remaining pieces are circles layered behind to create and finish the big fat pumpkin.  The leaf was cut from the Autumn Accents Bigz Die and then spritzed with Platinum Shimmer Paint mixed with rubbing alcohol. 

For the background I included a scrap of Howlstooth and Scaringbone which had been run through the Rosette Bigz XL Die.  I think it looks like a fence.  I really like using accordion folds for all kinds of projects.  See another Halloween decor project here which uses accordion folds.  The greeting comes from the Curly Cute set and is stamped on Very Vanilla.  It may be a bit tricky to see but it is also attached to a bamboo skewer.  The large bow is tied with the 7/8" Natural Cotton Ribbon and I used Linen Thread on the leaf.
